👋🏼 Hi, Grace! I’m Susan ☺️ a fellow 30 something, single, not one of the moms ✨
You are a GEM and a DELIGHT! I am so glad to have discovered your page and this blog ❤️ Thank you for writing your story and inviting other single, “not one of the moms” to the table, let alone the conversation.
1 John 4:10-12 is what it’s all about! Love the language of honor and availability too.
Susan! What a kind comment, thanks for taking some time to read and reach out. I love how Substack has a way of connecting me with people in similar life situations. Good to meet you!
This is SO SWEET I love it so much!!! We are kind of opposites but also very alike. I turn 30 in September and I am also Christian.
I went to law school and was definitely the odd one out marrying at 24 and becoming a Mom at 27. My friends who have children were both pregnant at the same time as me. My very best friend, who I consider a sister, is 30 now but also single. It's SUCH a gift to have her and this just makes me appreciate her so much more.
I think my 20’s had me feeling like all I was good for was being the unattached single friend whose flexible plans could accomodate the needs of other families and couples. My 30’s had me feeling like I could actually sow blessing into the lives of those people because of the place I was at in my own life, as an act of service and generosity that I felt God calling me to.
Entering my mid-30’s (and still single) has brought with it the new realisation that not only am I loving my friends and their kids in their stage of life as young families, but I am BEING LOVED. Yeah, it helps my buddies when I can come to nightly routines with them or drop off a meal when they all get struck down with sickness, but actually I am equally sown into and blessed by the love and welcome and warmth I experience with them.
Thanks for a beautiful reflection which I connect so deeply to!
Wow Caitlyn, that is a powerful backstory! I think it’s so great to hear how young families in your life have helped you feel seen and loved. Sometimes we just have to open our hearts to experiencing life differently than we envisioned, and a lot of richness can unfold from there.
Chelsey, that is lovely to hear. I’m so glad you have some not-Moms in your community. I believe it’s an enriching expedience for all to have our communities be diversified in this way!
I agree! It’s actually a relief to be with one of my friends who is single and our conversation not be about marriage or kids… not that I mind talking about that but it’s nice when the conversation is about something else!
Thank you so much, Holli! I’m glad to hear other people can relate to these sentiments. It’s so powerful to see how Substack can make us all feel less alone!
Hello from another childless Christian! I’m married but I’m permanently childless and unfortunately don’t have any friends due to chronic illness. The church alienates married childless couples so thank you for your voice and speaking about how God can work in the here and now and in all things 🤍
Ari, thank you for sharing about your life circumstances and thoughts about community. I am sorry for the hardships it sounds like you’ve had to face, but I hope you continue to see God at work in your life in tender and personal ways ❤️
