Grace, this is a wonderful poem :) Knowing that you’re walking through a season of grief right now, I can see how the words and imagery flow from your heart. Being in a long season of grief myself, I resonate deeply with its different forms. And I love that you concluded with the aspect of grief that shows how it is intricately linked to love.
Thank you, Wein! I appreciate your words of encouragement; it's a new experience to share a poem here, and I feel a bit like I'm going to a party wearing a shirt that is perhaps a little bit out of my normal style haha. But grief isn't a new experience! While there is fresh grief this summer, there are many other lasting griefs that are a part of the human experience that I think we all feel. It is something that unites us all, if we let it.
Grief like an earthquake and a crashing wave! Sadly, that's where I am this week. Thank you for your words! And also the reminder, that there is a warmer grief underneath, of shared memories and stories.♥️🥹
Antje, thanks for sharing where you relate to the poem even though I wish you weren’t experiencing that. Grief is a part of life, but it’s so hard! I hope you will find yourself in a place of memory and story and warmth, too. When it’s time.
Same girl. Thank you for the prayer 🙏 Sitting with your line about grief as a wave (such an apt metaphor) reminded me of the Charles Spurgeon quote “i have learned to kiss the waves that throw me up against the rock of ages” 🌊

"This is the part..." amen. Thanks for letting us into this achey and brave venture into poetry!
Jed! Thank you. I always enjoy your poetry here and am glad to share my first venture in publicly sharing my own.

Thank you, Abigail! You’ve encouraged me to keep inching towards it, so here I am!

Sonya, I wish you weren’t there but I am praying for you right now! Thanks for spending some time with this poem ♥️

SO good. “Dash me on the rock of ages / let me break as darkness rages,” as Andy Squyres sings!
YES!!🙌 I love when poems beget more poems!
I love how embodied this is. 😍
Thank you, Erin! I appreciate you reading it.
